Banff shares its name with Banff National Park, which surrounds it. Many visitors use the town as their base while exploring the park. Skiers going to the top of the Canadian Rockies are struck by the snow-covered peaks and unspoiled wilderness of the park. The Banff area has three main ski areas: Norquay - famous for the Olympics; Sunshine - great family skiing on its treeless fall line; and Lake Louise - the largest with stunning views and wide-open bowls. Heli-skiing, ice skating, great dining and a variety of nightspots complete a wonderful vacation!
LODGING: The Inns of Banff is located on Banff Avenue with ski rentals, 2 restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools , hot tub and underground garage. The superior rooms have 2 queens and a minifridge. The beautiful Chateau Lake Louise sits on the shore of Lake Louise, overlooking the Victoria Glacier. It is full service with an indoor pool, hot tub, ice castle, restaurants and lounges plus ski storage & rentals. The Douglas Fir Condos cater to families and offer a playground, indoor pool, saunas, free daily coffee and daily maid service. The condos have a full kitchen, and fireplace. The 1br has a queen bed and sofa sleeper. The one bedroom/loft has 1 ½ baths, 3 queen beds, and a double sofa-bed.
